New Range Of 10mm Buildings Coming Shortly

10mm is my main focus at the moment and I'll be aiming at producing quite generic buildings suitable for various eras. I'm hoping to start with a small 10mm range of around 6 pieces but I'll be developing new pieces constantly. It's early days yet and I'm in the process of looking around for equipment and materials and of course a small workshop to work from. I'm hoping by the New Year I'll have product ready to sell.

Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1964 and started my working life in the Potteries which I detested! In 1986 I became a silicone mould maker for a high class giftware manufacturer who produced really high quality hand painted resin wildlife figurines. While there i became a good friend to one of the business partners who was also the sculptor (the best in the industry in my opinion) I worked closely with him throughout my time there as it was my job to take the original wax sculpture and to figure out a way to mould it and to get it into production. I've always been artistic and drawing and painting were by far my best school subjects and the sculptor there urged me to try my hand at it. I did just that and found that I did have a knack for it and a keen eye for detail. Up until 1991 I was trained in sculpture then in the same year I was offered a position by a new company setting up in Perthshire, Scotland.  This however didn't last long as our views on quality differed greatly. At this point I set up my own business creating figurines for the giftware market and had a few successful years trading all over the World.

Towards the mid 1990's I became very disillusioned with the industry, cheap imported were flooding the market and quality was taking a back seat. I wound the business up and moved back to Stoke. Since then I created several resin wargame ranges which were ultimately sold to various companies in the US and Australia. 

As first the new range I plan to concentrate solely on scales and subject matter that interest me. I have no plans to take commission work preferring to 'do my own thing'... there's a lot of good quality scenery to wargames these days so what makes mine special? Hard to say really. I believe in quality throughout the whole process, be that the quality of the sculpting, the materials used or the production methods. I see no reason to differentiate between quality sculpted giftware and wargamers scenery. The process is exactly the same in my view.

My plan is to build a small range but this will continually be added to as the sculpting is the really enjoyable part of the whole process.

Funded In 2 Days! The Ogre Warriors Are Coming from Black Gate Miniatures

I am delighted to be able to announce that Black Gate Miniatures first product line has funded!

Thanks to each and every person who has pledged to make this dream a reality.

Now I need to convince enough people in the next 27 days to back this project to release not only the Armoured Warriors but the Cannoneer, Chieftain and Mammoth Riders.That means we need to get to £4,000, it sounds like a lot, but it would only take another 50 people pledging £60 each.

I will do everything in my power to spread the world and am working on sending out marketing packs and contacting gaming media outlets, as well as working forums and Facebook etc. But I need your help. Everyone who has backed the project will get a better range of product the further up the Stretch Goals we manage to get. It really is what Kickstarter was designed for. We all win if we can get more people involved in the pledging. So please help spread the word!

I will look at creating some fun add-ons next. Maybe dice. People seem to love dice.

Anyway, we are halfway through day 3 and I can tell you it is a little tiring running a Kickstarter, I can't believe it is only Wednesday.

Austro-Hungarian Cruisers & Destroyers 1914-18

At the outbreak of World War I Austria-Hungary had four modern light cruisers and twenty modern destroyers at their disposal, constructed in the early 20th century to defend their growing overseas interests. Stretch Goal rationalisation from Black Gate Miniatures

I have reworked the Stretch Goals a little.

The main reason is to get the things people have been asking me most about in the last 24 hours closer to the top of the Stretch Goal list.

The 2nd Stretch Goal at £3,000 now has two parts. The first unlocks the Cannoneer unit and the second triggers the Free Ogre Chieftain model to all pledges of Ogre Chieftain or above. I love this model and so wanted to produce it as soon as financially viable.

The second change is to the 3rd Stretch Goal at £4,000, this again has two parts now. The are both related to the Mammoth Riders and £4,000 give you access to either the unit of three riders and mounts for £10 per unit or the character rider and mount for £5. They have been moved up the list a long way, as people really wanted to see these guys, but in doing so the Mammoth Riders have moved to be a £10 add-on.

The final change is to remove the rest of the Stretch Goal for the time being. They haven't gone away for good, but I think it best to focus on what is most achievable.

Well it's been an interesting first 24 hours and a lot of fun. Ogres for ever!

Fireteam Modern Rules

Fireteam Modern is a set of small unit skirmish wargame rules for modern combined arms land combat using 15-28mm scale miniatures. The rules can be used to fight battles from any post WW2 conflict dating from the 1950s to the modern day or the near future.

These rules have been designed to work with opposing forces of approximately platoon size with additional reinforcements such as small numbers of armoured vehicles and light artillery support.

The PDF contains the core rules, printable counters and templates, scenarios and army lists for modern British, US, Russian, Middle Eastern and Insurgent forces.
