1/144 Morser Karl mit Munitionsschlepper auf Panzer IV from Dragon Models

The Mörser Karl, a German self-propelled siege mortar used during World War II, was a huge piece of weaponry. However, Dragon’s 1/144 Mini Armor series brings the Mörser Karl down to a more approachable size in its latest kit releases. Whereas Item 14132 represents a Mörser Karl configured for rail transport, this Item 14135 offers something different yet equally appealing. Because of the enormous size of the rounds that the mortar fired, each Mörser Karl was allotted 2-3 tracked carriers to move ammunition to the gun, which were used in combat from 1941-45 on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Each of these Munitionsschlepper für Karl-Gerät could carry four rounds on their superstructure.

This unassembled 1/144 scale kit in the Mini Armor series comes in either a dark yellow or panzer gray plastic color, so this can make the presentation or painting of the vehicles easier for modelers in a hurry. Furthermore, the kit provided the option of either a 54cm or 60cm mortar barrel. Though figures are not included, this mortar is accompanied by the aforementioned Munitionsschlepper auf Panzer IV, which comes with a full complement of four giant mortar shells and an extended crane. To complete the scene is a bonus length of railway track and a Flatbed Typ Ommr.

1/144 Morser Karl mit Railway Transport Carrier from Dragon Models

The Morser Karl was a huge piece of weaponry that weighed a hefty 124 tons. The weapon’s bulk meant it had to be transported around on a special two-piece set of railcars for long-distance travel. Using this transportation method, the whole mortar chassis was hung between two pedestal-mounted swiveling arms borne on five-axle bogies. Dragon’s 1/144 Mini Armor series brings the Morser Karl and the railcars down to a wholly more manageable size in the latest kit release.

That means the accurate model self-propelled mortar comes with the two special railcars and, indeed, it is depicted slung between them. The kit is available in either a dark yellow or panzer gray plastic color, so this will ease the job of the modeler should they be seeking a shortcut. To complete this impressive miniature scene, we include a suitable length of railway track as a special bonus. Straight from the box, model-makers can create a stunning diorama with one of the heaviest German weapons of the war. This item proves that small-scale kits can most certainly ignite the modeler’s imagination!

1/144 German Railway Gun 28cm K5(E) 'leopold from Dragon Models

Dragon has previously released an enormous 1/35 scale kit of ‘Leopold’, but its size probably precluded many from even beginning any attempt at building it. Dragon now has the ideal solution in the form of its Mini Armor collection, with a convenient 1/144 scale kit of the German 28cm K5(E). This scale is much more manageable, plus the finished product will not take up nearly as much shelf space! This kit has everything needed to form a stunning diorama straight from the box, for the set includes a section of railway track and embankment for the railway gun to sit on. Not only that, but Dragon also includes artillery crewmen to populate the gun and surrounding diorama. And the most amazing thing about this Mini Armor item? There are actually two different and complete K5(E) railway guns on offer: one is finished in plastic that is German panzer gray, and the other in dark yellow. That means modelers can choose the one best suited to the diorama they have in mind, either in an Italian theater or somewhere elsewhere in Europe. ‘Leopold’ lives again – it’s still big but it’s much more conveniently sized than before!

This version included bonus parts aluminum barrel & photo-etched for 1st production.
