Share Your Love of History with the Next Generation

Share Your Love of History with the Next Generation

Sometimes, an experience is worth a thousand textbooks. And thanks to supporters like you who’ve saved 50,000 acres and counting of historic battleground, worthy experiences with American history are possible across our great nation.

Yet too many of America’s youth never have a chance to visit these sacred places. Field trips can be a powerful way to teach American history, but budget limitations may put these trips out of reach for even the most passionate of history educators. That’s why in the past four years we’ve done all we can with our Field Trip Fund to support teachers who want to take their students to a battlefield but don’t have the funds to make the trip.

First, the bad news: It’s not enough. As this project has grown in popularity, we are finding it harder to meet demand. Currently, we have to reject many of the field trip applications we receive due to lack of funds.

Now, the good news: You can help. Last school year, it cost the Trust just $9.30 to help send one student on a field trip. Think about that for a moment…for just $9.30, you could potentially change a life and spark an enduring love of history. For $186, you could send a class of 20 kids to a battlefield and invest in the next generation of preservationists. Better still, a tremendously generous matching grant from the History Channel means every dollar you give today will be doubled, up to $25,000!

I’ll leave you with the words of Maria Sugina, a student we helped visit Gettysburg:

“Being at Gettysburg as a kid was a magical experience and truly brought what we were learning in the classroom, and working toward raising funds to preserve, to life.”

If you agree that educating and inspiring the next generation is an essential part of our work, please consider making a gift to support the Field Trip Fund. Visit our website to learn more and donate today.

Remember, every dollar you contribute today to bring immersive American history education to students for whom it would otherwise be out of reach will be doubled by the History Channel. As millions of students head back to school in the coming weeks, I ask you to help me save America's future by taking advantage of this wonderful matching gift!
