Gettysburg Fun(d)raiser: See the Land, Save the History on June 13th

Please grab your calendar to mark next Wednesday, June 13th, 2018, as the day you helped save historic land at Gettysburg for future generations - and had fun in the process!

We have a remarkable opportunity to preserve the most historically significant unprotected land on Seminary Ridge--18 acres of hallowed ground that witnessed the climactic scene of fierce, deadly fighting on July 1, 1863.

To give you a better sense of what’s at stake and see the land we’re saving, we’re hosting a Facebook Live tour of this land from 12 to 2 p.m. ET on June 13th. The event will feature:

  • A guided walkabout on the land we have the chance to save
  • A special visit inside Lee’s Headquarters, including places not usually accessible
  • Insider details and little-known facts sure to surprise history nerds and novices alike
  • Special guests including battlefield guides, historians, and artifact-toting folks from the Seminary Ridge Museum and Adams County Historical Society
  • Opportunities to "ask the experts" your burning Gettysburg questions
  • Shout-outs to anyone who donates during the event or challenges their friends, family, or coworkers to do the same

Today, this land is nearly unchanged from 1863, but we can’t guarantee it will stay that way until we permanently protect it. The price for these 18 acres of hallowed ground is $3.5 million, and due to its location, we are unable to apply for federal matching grants. We have to go this one alone. It is a big task, but if we have your help, we can preserve this land together and make history.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 during this live event. A generous donor has already pledged to double all donations, up to $5,000! So please, join us to watch the live event, and make a contribution via Facebook.

We are relying on you to save this historic treasure so future generations can better understand the Battle of Gettysburg, and ultimately understand the American Civil War.

Learn more about this important preservation effort and follow us on Facebook for updates about the June 13th event. If you can’t join us on June 13th, you can still donate to this most worthy cause anytime through our website, battlefields.org.

See you Live on Facebook from Gettysburg!
