Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

Tomorrow, Americans will come together with their loved ones to reflect and give thanks, continuing an annual tradition formally established more than 150 years ago by President Abraham Lincoln on the fourth Thursday of November.

At the Civil War Trust, we have a great deal for which to be thankful. In the past year, we have preserved more than 2,000 acres of hallowed ground at sacred sites such as Gettysburg, Champion Hill, and Appomattox Court House. We have also achieved a number of firsts. By saving the Revolutionary War battlefield at Fort Ann, we saved our first battlefield in the state of New York. Also in New York, we saved a key portion of the Sackets Harbor battlefield—our first battlefield from the War of 1812. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, it’s hard to believe we are approaching 48,000 acres of land saved!

And we have no intention of slowing down. Take a look at this video to experience some of our remarkable preservation work in 2017.

These achievements and others would not have been possible without you. It remains as important today as ever that we continue to honor and learn from the sacrifices of the men and women who built and preserved this great nation. As this year’s giving season approaches, I know we can continue to count on your unwavering support.

I hope your holiday is filled with warmth and good cheer, and I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.
