Join Us to, Charge into the Past

Join Us to, Charge into the Past

The critical battles of the Revolutionary War and Civil War were fought on the private farms, woodlots and backyards of peaceful people. Ordinary citizens had been living life and working their fields for decades until one terrible day when war came to their town and changed it forever. Harder still, most of the young men from each town were gone, off to fight the nation’s battles for independence or freedom.

So, I am especially excited to invite you to a special Generations event to experience the life of American soldiers and civilians before, during and after the wars that created and defined our country. The American Battlefield Trust is teaming up with the Richmond National Battlefield Park to hold this free event Harvest Day on September 15th. The Harvest Day activities happen from 10:00 a.m.  4:00 p.m. with our two Generations events lasting roughly 1 hour each, starting at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.

Adults and kids of all ages will share in the experience of civilian and military life during the conflicts. You will get the opportunity to take care of your farm, build a fence, charge like soldiers on an actual battlefield, hear the explosions, smell the gunpowder and deal with battle’s terrible aftermath at your house.

The event is free and open to all, with the hope that you will participate with someone of another generation. Some lucky kids will even get to don hats and uniforms while families might get a tintype photo to take home with them! Come on out and help instill a lifelong passion for history in your daughter, grandson, neighbor or friend.
