Cold War 84 Update by Timecast

Stocks of the new 1980s Soviet infantry have arrived and we will be posting out the advance orders as quickly as we can pack them.

The new BTR 60PB looks lovely and the production mould will hopefully be up and running in time for Salute. The BMP M-1976 is also ready for a production mould. Pictures of these two models will be on the web site shortly.

Here's some pics of the painted BMPs instead…

And now the computer news.

We have just installed a new office PC. Unfortunately it arrived with the appallingly dreadful Windows 10 installed on it. Having spent two days trying to install and replace the even more appallingly dreadful Windows 10 Mail we now have our email back up and running. If you have emailed us over the past couple of days and have not had a reply please try again or phone us – we may have lost some emails but we don't know (Thanks for nothing Microsoft). :-(

In addition, due to the times spent on the new PC, we have not been able to update the website. As soon as we have the required graphics and web editing software up and running on the new PC we'll get pictures of the new stuff on the website.

Medieval Warfare VII-2, Apr-May 2017

Medieval Warfare VII-2, Apr-May 2017

Forced to sign the Magna Carta in 1215, King John soon made clear he had no intention of actually following its commandments. By the Summer of that year, the First Barons' War had begun. It pitched the king versus his barons, who looked for help from king Philip II of France. In the spring of next year, Londoners celebrated the entry of French Prince Louis, who soon had much of the south-eastern part of the country under his control.

Theme: The Battle of Lincoln

Peter Konieczny, 'The failure of Magna Carta - The First Barons' War (1215-1217)'.
William E. Welsh, 'Hard pressed and strongly resisted - The Siege of Rochester'.
Lane Sobehrad, 'Hating John - How English chroniclers portrayed the king'.
Catherine Hanley, 'The key to England - the Siege of Dover'.
Danièle Cybulskie, 'From towers to tunnels - Game Changers in English castle-building'.
Sean McGlynn, 'A day to be venerated through our age - the Battle of Lincoln'.
Craig M. Nakashian, 'A warrior for king and Christ - Peter des Roches at the Battle of Lincoln'.
Andrew Knighton, 'What happened to the prisoners of war - the aftermath of the Battle of Lincoln'.

Features:

Georgios Theotokis, 'The battles of the Orontes and Apamea - Byzantines and Fatimids at war'.
Ilana Krug, 'The sweet side of war - Honey and military medicine'.
Kay Smith and Ruth R. Brown, 'The Crossbow - A devilish device'.
Murray Dahm, 'Take from the rich; give to the poor - Robin Hood on film'.

Blitzkrieg Commander III At The Printers

Exactly what it says above!  The finished files have all gone off to the printers, so everything is on course for our planned release at the Salute show on 22nd April.  Barring any unforeseen random issue with the files, we should get confirmation back from the printers that everything is OK early next week and we'll then have a confirmed date for delivery of the printed books.

We will be taking pre-orders for BKCIII, but we'll put up information about that once everything is confirmed by the printers.

Not long now folks...

AB17 – The Battle of Franklin

Both the Home and Gin have some smaller resin parts which require some minor clean-up and assembly before painting. Superglue works fine for this. The castings of these four structures are lovely, in fact, beautiful. The Carter Home and Outbuildings were designed by Mike Randles and the Gin by Paul Bernardino. Casting, as always, was done by John Mayer. They are now available for sale on our website under the Between the Lines link on the left navigation bar.

The Suomi Submachine Gun by Osprey Publishing Ltd

The Suomi Submachine Gun by Osprey Publishing Ltd

Entering service in 1931, the 9x19mm Suomi KP/-31 submachine gun saw extensive combat with Finnish troops during their fight against Soviet forces in 1939-44. It was also manufactured under licence in Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden, and remained in Finnish service until the 1980s, an indication of its durability.

Rugged and accurate, the Suomi was a favourite with Finnish ski troops who would strike from ambush, cutting down Soviet troops, then skiing away into the woods. Initially used by the Finns as a light machine gun at infantry squad level, it eventually became a dedicated submachine gun, and since it had been designed to be more accurate than the typical SMG, it was often even used as a sniping weapon, or to supplement longer-ranged rifles such as the Mosin-Nagant. Featuring first-hand accounts and specially commissioned colour artwork, this is the story of one of World War II's most distinctive and respected infantry weapons.

Honoring Those They Led: Decorated Field Commanders of the Third Reich - Command Authorities, Award Parameters, and Ranks

Honoring Those They Led: Decorated Field Commanders of the Third Reich - Command Authorities, Award Parameters, and Ranks

Honoring Those They Led examines specific points and groups within a massive subject; Commanding Generals of WW II German field commands with those primarily studied being among those presented one or more of their highest combat decorations by Adolf Hitler. A lengthy opening chapter provides in-depth details on a diversity of subjects including specifics of the five senior ranks of the German Army, from Generalmajor to Generalfeldmarschall, that combined totaled some 2,000 officers. Information along with privately owned award documents are shown to fully understand the process and granting of Germany's highest awards for bravery or leadership; the Knight's Cross, German Cross in Gold, and Roll of Honor Clasp.

Other topics include the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, Oberkommando des Heeres, Generalstabes des Heeres, and their key personnel. Changes in command level responsibilities as the war progressed as a result of Hitler's appointments and operational planning are discussed. Encompassing all senior ranks, examples within the chapter include those from the largest group; officers who attained General rank after the war started with focus on those awarded one or more of their highest decorations for their initial command. Chapters follow on the primary advisors to field commanders; the First Staff Officers and Chiefs of Staff of higher commands. Then the presenting of awards by field commanders is discussed and the wartime status of recipients including numerous images of a field presentation of the Knight's Cross. Representing the countries allied with Germany; the decorated Spanish commanders of the 250.Infanterie Division are then detailed. With careers that include commands from Division to Heeresgruppe, 34 field commanders are then examined in individual chapters. All were recipients of the Oakleaves, Swords, or Diamonds to the Knight's Cross with visual details included of one or more of their award presentations by Hitler.

With detailed military service specifics presented in this oversized-format volume, the data begins at the start of their lengthy military careers. Many joined the Army before WW I and saw combat in the Great War before serving with the Reichswehr that became the Wehrmacht on May 21, 1935. Details include assignments and units with their development, decorations, promotions, predecessors and successors. The information is enhanced with primarily previously unpublished images including autographed photos and award documents given to or signed by them.

Among the material included are all the award and promotion documents from both World Wars given to a divisional commander of Grossdeutschland. These nearly three dozen General ranks range from famous names to more obscure commanders who had significant impact in the field, their skills frequently resulting in being appointed as successors to more well-known officers in command appointments as the war progressed. A Gallery chapter concludes the volume, incorporating images and documents of personnel related to the various categories of the study that were not incorporated with the study. A wealth of information for both history readers and collectors. Glossary, bibliography, and name index for finding entries pertaining to more than 300 command personnel.

10mm Germanic Tribesmen from Van Dyck Models

10mm Germanic Tribesmen from Van Dyck Models

Barbarians at the gates, New release: Germanic Tribesmen!

Although some packs were already available on "crisis 2016" last year and some more at the "Hamburger Tactica" we finally (and after much delay) have them available at our online website as well.

Causing all this delay was partly because I got carried away on the diversity of this range, altogether there are over 60 different new figurines. The few information available states ancient Germanic tribesmen did not wear any protective headgear so I invested a lot in making different heads. I made an effort to depict the various ways these warriors arranged their hair, certainly a considerable part of them wears the famous "Suebian" knot. No uniforms so I made a selection of different breeches, long and short ones, with and without puttees, shirts both with and without sleeves.

In the next few weeks I will present all the different packs available, starting with the young warriors, who will probably make up the bulk of the army. Their equipment is very basic for they have only a shield and one weapon, mostly the spear, with them. Most of them wear no beards. It won't be the new standard but a pack of these warriors contains 30 different miniatures.
