Happy New Year from the Civil War Trust
As we welcome 2017, this new year marks the 30th anniversary of the Civil War Trust. Thinking of all you and so many others have accomplished in those 30 years, I am truly humbled by your generosity and immensely proud of the battlefields we have protected together for future generations.
Since the modern battlefield preservation movement began in 1987, we have saved more than 46,000 acres of American battlefield land. Think of that: 46,000 acres of hallowed ground, land where Americans of unrivaled courage and determination settled the great issues of our nation. Today, Americans can walk the ground where our ancestors fought and bled for folks like us and our children and grandchildren. That's really quite an accomplishment.
None of this happened by itself, or even because of the Civil War Trust. It happened because of you.
So, as a New Year dawns, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all you've done to protect our American heritage, not just in 2016 which was a great year but over the last three decades
And I want to encourage you to look forward with me. The year 2017 promises to bring a great many more opportunities to preserve key acres of hallowed ground land we will work together to save for future generations.
