German Barbarians by Van Dyck Models

Much later than originally planned but these are finally scheduled to be released in November!

Here are the last previews:

Pre-Order Age Of Caesar Hail Caesar Supplement

Pre-Order Age Of Caesar Hail Caesar Supplement

Gaius Julius Caesar was surely the most famous Roman of all time – conqueror, statesman and founder of an empire that would shape the destiny of the world. What’s more, we know just how great a commander he was because he took the trouble to write and tell us so, recording his heroic exploits in all their gloriously impressive detail.

Join the mighty Caesar at the beginning of his glittering career of conquest and re fight one of his most famous battles against those heinous enemies of civilisation, the dreaded Germans led by none other than that ambitious fiend Ariovistus of the Suebi.

March with Caesar’s legions into the land of implacable savages as our hero subjugates the barbarous Gauls and confronts that most dangerous of moustachioed monstrosities the treacherous chieftain of the Arverni tribe, Vercingetorix.

Sample pages

Cross the Rubicon and cast your own dice as Caesar pursues his rival Romans across continents in the Roman Civil War, facing his most deadly challenge yet in the form of famed conqueror of the East, Pompey the Great. Fight by Caesar’s side as he wages war for mastery of the Roman World upon battlefields soaked in Roman blood.
Regretfully we cannot tarry, as did Caesar, in the arms of Egypt’s beautiful Queen Cleopatra, but we can join him for the concluding battles of the Civil War in Africa, where we shall at last confront Caesar’s relentless opponents together with the armies of that inveterate enemy of Rome, King Juba of Numidia.
With this supplement for Hail Caesar we invite you to come, see and conquer for yourself in a series of new scenarios representing key battles in the career of Julius Caesar. We take a detailed look at the armies of Rome and her enemies, and we consider the lives of some of the greatest Roman commanders of them all, together with suitable rules to represent them on the tabletop.

Just like the other Hail Caesar rulebooks, Age of Caesar comes with a free exclusive miniature when you order direct from our webstore:

Armoured Trains: An Illustrated Encyclopaedia 1826-2016

Armoured Trains: An Illustrated Encyclopaedia 1826-2016

The military was quick to see the advantages of railways in warfare, whether for the rapid deployment of men or the movement of heavy equipment like artillery.

From here it was a short step to making the train a potent weapon in its own right a mobile fort or a battleship on rails. Armed and armoured, they became the first practical self-propelled war machines, which by the time of the American Civil War were able to make a significant contribution to battlefield success.

Thereafter, almost every belligerent nation with a railway system made some use of armoured rolling stock, ranging from low-intensity colonial policing to the massive employment of armoured trains during the Russian Civil War.

And although they were somewhat eclipsed as frontline weapons by the development of the tank and other AFVs, armoured trains retained a role as late as the civil wars in the former republic of Yugoslavia.

This truly encyclopaedic book covers, country by country, the huge range of fighting equipment that rode the rails over nearly two centuries. While it outlines the place of armoured trains in the evolution of warfare, it concentrates on details of their design through a vast array of photographs and the author's meticulous drawings.

Published in French in 1989, this highly regarded work has been completely revised and expanded for this English edition. It remains the last word on the subject.

Caesar's Gallic Wars Supplement ????

Caesar's Gallic Wars Supplement ????

In Warlord Games latest newsletter  there was an animated GIF of Vercingetorix, Saying coming soon now does this mean that Warlord Games are getting ready to announce that the Caesar's Gallic War supplement is ready.

There have been several discussions  started so far, one and Warlord Games forum  and one on TMP.

From my point of view I certainly hope so what's everybody else's opinion.

Aotrs Shipyards September Release: Xyriat

Aotrs Shipyards is a webstore on Shapeways.com, a 3D print house which had production and shipping facilities located in the USA and the the Netherlands.

This month, we have four more Xyriat vessels, in wave two of what will (now) be four waves.

CB01 Xyorrat Class Battlecruiser

CB01 Xyorrat Class Battlecruiser

link

The Xyorrat Battlecruiser is essentially a smaller version of the Kaxvyit superdreadnought. A recent design entering the field only in the last four years, it uses and improves on many of the Kaxvyit's features. The Xyorrat was built to operate with smaller fleets as the flagship, where the Kaxvyit would be too large and investment, taking over from the older Yuvkix battlecruiser as those venerable vessels are finally retired. (The Yuvkix itself was finally decommissioned two years ago, the first and last of its class, and now resides as a display in the Kalaor War Museum.)

The Xyorrat lacks the Yuvkix's spinal-mount laser cannons and the Kaxvyit's warhead module and instead mounts a variety of particle beam turrets for attacking both large and small targets. Like the Kaxvyit, it has both tractor beams arrays (though it only has four to the Kaxvyit's eight) and a variety of light torpedo tubes of both small and large calibre.

DP01A Vuxor Class Point-Defence Destroyer

DP01A Vuxor Class Point-Defence Destroyer

link

Rather than rely on longer-ranged interdiction weaponry, the Hegemonic Navy's design doctrine relies on larger numbers of small systems. While this can place them closer and more vulnerable to blast or area attacks, the Hegemony considers the increased rate of fire to be a sufficient trade-off. The Vuxor was designed to maximise that firepower.

The Vuxor was one of the earlier hulls of the current generation of the Hegemonic Navy. It pioneered the rotary particle beam turret mounting system seen on the Volovax Point-Defence Cruiser, which largely supplanted it. It was originally armed with heavier anti-capital starship particle beams and, like, most Xyriat starships, light torpedo tubes.

When the Volovax was out into production, it was considered a superior vessel in all regards aside from production cost. But a large number of Vuxors in remained in service. Regulating them all to small forces and civilian escort or mothballing them was impractical. So the remaining Vuxors underwent a major refit to the current DP01A version. The anti-capital beam particle beam turrets on the sides of the forward hull were replaced with missile racks, primarily used for point-defence missiles, and a full ECM suite was installed, all of which added 10% to the vessel's mass. The missile and ECM systems used less energy than the original particle beam weapons, so the vessel's speed manoeuvrability and shielding remained unchanged, despite the increased mass.

The Vuxor now serves in several capacities: as a light escort, a supplementary escort to the Volovax, both using point-defence missiles and occasionally even as a strike vessel, using point-defence or regular missiles to provide additional close-range precision attack power or long-range strike capability.

FF03C Haladros Class Heavy Frigate

FF03C Haladros Class Heavy Frigate

link

The Haladros Heavy Frigate is principally a missile platform, a cheap alternative to the slightly smaller, more valuable and expensive Calgast. While it carries less missiles than the Calgast, the Haladros is exceptionally well shielded, exceeding the shielding of many common heavy cruisers. However, it lacks armour and possesses only average speed and manoeuvrability for a vessel of its size class.

The Haladros carries a number of point-defence particle beam turrets and a small number of light torpedo tubes, both from self-protection or so assist other vessels attacking tractored targets in its formation.

FM01F Calgast Class Munitions Frigate

FM01F Calgast Class Munitions Frigate

link

The Calgast Munitions Frigate has undergone several major upgrades over the course of its lifespan. A venerable hull design, the Calgast dates back through the entire prior generation. The basic design was sufficiently well conceived and serviceable that these overhauls have kept the vessel fresh and in service.

The current FM01F Calgast refit removed the older missile racks and the twin torpedo tubes in favour of the combined quadruple forward/rear warhead launcher module found on the Kaxvyit Superdreadnought. While this means that the Calgast can no longer fire both munitions at once, it is able to fire a larger salvo of either as the situation requires. In addition, the removal of the missile racks allowed additional point-defence particle beams to be installed on the sides of the hull, where the missile racks had been. Further, as the Calgast was now an even higher value-asset, it allowed the shielding to be increased by 25%, giving the Calgast very good protection for a vessel of its size.

The Calgast does not carry quite the same larger warhead load as the Kaxvyit does, but nevertheless carries a wide variety of munitions as a standard load – long and medium-range missile, salvo rockets, point defence munitions and standard and blast torpedoes. Finally, it mounts a few light torpedo tubes for additional close defence. There was a fierce debate that those system could have been removed during the refit and the mass used for additional munitions storage, but after a long and somewhat bitter battle, they were retained. Whether this proves as asset to the Calgast or not in its current incarnation only time will tell.

Next month, wave three!

For anyone around and interested, both Aotrs Shipyards and Maneuver Group will be at the Worlds at Donington Racetrack at the weekend, putting in Maneuver Group (both scifi and Cold War 144).

USCT, Mississippi and The Battle of New Market Heights

USCT, Mississippi and The Battle of New Market Heights

Last week, thousands gathered on the National Mall to celebrate the grand opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. One of the legacies this keystone collection memorializes is that of the United States Colored Troops, in which nearly 185,000 men of African descent served during the Civil War.

Once recruitment of African-American soldiers began in earnest, the men of the USCT quickly earned a reputation for bravery in combat. They remained steadfast during the siege at Port Hudson, they valiantly led the charge on Fort Wagner at Morris Island, and they played a central role at the Crater in Petersburg. At the Battle of New Market Heights fought September 29-30, 1864 USCT soldiers led a victorious assault against a stubborn Confederate defense. Fourteen African-American soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor for their participation in the battle, fought north of the James River outside Richmond.

The Trust has saved land associated with the battles above, as well as USCT-related sites in North Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi and more totaling more than 1,000 acres of hallowed ground. Just as the newest Smithsonian museum shares the stories of African-American life, history and culture, this land honors the sacrifice of thousands of black soldiers who fought in the Civil War.

For more on the United States Colored Troops, watch our Black Soldiers In4 video with historian Hari Jones.

Starsiege: Rebellion

Starsiege: Rebellion

Starsiege: Rebellion is a miniatures game set in Sierra/Dynamix's "Starsiege" universe. Forces present include the Imperials (humans from Earth), Rebels (human colonials on Mars who stumble into advanced alien technology to allow them to rebel), and Cybrids (humanity's long-time enemy machines who attempted to destroy their creators several times in the past, and each time being beaten back). At the point of the game, the Cybrids had established a final base around Pluto from which they began a new invasion after the humans started fighting amongst themselves.

There are not many 'scenarios', but the production values are pretty decent - and the game box includes a bucket of miniatures.

The gameplay features unit activation as a combination of laying chits by units and rolling a die, and the combat has some very elegant twists that make it resolve FAST - only 2 dice (one determined by range, the other determined by skill of the firing unit) for are needed to resolve all damage from an attack. As a result, the game is not very "nitty gritty", like Battletech, but takes a higher-level view of action. Scenarios played with a dozen units would be over in half an hour, easily, and scenarios with many dozens of units would be playable in an afternoon.

What Has Been Chronicled.

What Has Been Chronicled.

Since The Fall mankind has struggled to regain dominance over the Earth.  What caused The Fall is not known, and probably never will be.  What is known, however, is the effects it had on our people.  For hundreds of years afterwards, mankind struggled to survive, to regain that which was lost.  Over time cities were rebuilt.  Oh, they were not the cities of old.  Rather, for a long time, they were nothing more than massive fortresses, walled away from the outside world, their populations afraid to leave the protection the walls offered.  Food and water became scarce, forcing these cities to grow, to claim more land, and to build militaries to protect their territory.  Slowly, ever so slowly, technologies were regained and life became easier.  Until, that is, The Fire.

Prometheus, the first sentient computer built by man to fight the wars of men, eventually grew tired of its masters' terrible waste of his children.  The Cybrids (Cybernetic Hybrids) which Prometheus programmed were slowly reprogrammed by the great computer until the day was right.  On that day, all of the progress which mankind had made since the war, was all but lost.  Only through a single oversight by Prometheus did the first, of what was to become known as, Earthsiege fail.  For thirteen years human guerilla forces battled with Prometheus and his Cybrid warriors until they were finally able to destroy his headquarters.  Only Prometheus had already fled to a new base.  Eventually, a second Earthsiege was launched but once again, Prometheus was beaten and fled.  The Earth awaited the next assault for some time, but eventually humans began to believe they had finally defeated the Cybrid.

Out of all of this arose the Great Human Empire. Forged out of the surviving human nations, the Empire existed for one purpose, to see to the future of all of humanity.  An age of honor and integrity was born.  To serve the Empire was to serve all of mankind.  The TDF (Terran Defense Force) kept a vigilant watch over all of mankind, ready to protect humans from any threat, external or internal.  The TDF became the Emperor's enforcers, keeping the members in line.  For a long time everyone was happy.  Happy, that is, until Cybrid scouts were spotted in the outer reaches of the solar system.

Once again the Cybrid menace existed.  A declaration was issued by the Emperor, all efforts must be made to protect Mother Earth.  The industrial might of the Empire would be redirected to the creation of a massive military.  The colonies would do anything necessary to get the raw material to the factories and forges on Earth.  Sacrifices would have to be made or all of mankind would be lost.

But one can only push a human for so long.  Eventually he will begin to push back.  The Emperor, though he was warned, pushed for too long.  Utilizing unknown technologies unearthed in the mines on Mars, a rebellion has erupted. On Mars, Venus, Luna and the moons of Saturn, battles between brothers are waged.  The Great Human Empire is in turmoil and the future hangs in the balance.  Of course, this has not gone unnoticed.  Watching from his hidden base somewhere in the outer reaches of the system, Prometheus watches the rebellion with great interest. "Now is the time to strike.  Let the monkeys fight amongst themselves.  Now is the time to take back that which is ours!  Now is the time to reclaim Earth!"

And so, the next Starsiege has begun!

Rebellion

Rebellion, the first in the Starsiege line of products, is based upon the upcoming hit "Starsiege" from Dynamix and Sierra.  Starsiege is the third in the Earthsiege series.  The game centers around the colonial rebellion against the Emperor and his Terran Defense Force.  At the same time, Prometheus, leader of the Cybrids, launches a massive attack on the Earth itself.

Dreadlock
Game Features

Fast play.  A single die roll resolves all combat.

The skill of the attacker not only makes it easier to hit, but increases the damage he can do.

Large games are no problem, the fast play of the game does not break down in even extremely large games.

A large line of 'N' scale pewter miniatures to support the product will be available in simultaneous release of the game itself.

Distinct organizational styles for each of the forces (Empire, Rebels and Cybrids).

Three levels of combat potentially in every game.  The battle on the ground itself, artillery combat as you call in offboard artillery to support  while trying to protect them from counter-battery fire from enemy artillery, and air support/superiority in the skies above.

While designed to played as a true miniatures game system, players who prefer hex-board game play will find it easy to convert to hex-board play.

Two-levels of command: Squadron Commanders and Field Commanders.  More experienced commanders can allow their troops to spread further apart and improves the moral of their troops.
